Liam Neeson : ZEUS the almighty

One of the greatest actors of our time. I have been a fan of Liam Neeson since Dark Man and on and on.

Liam has really put himself to the test and he's been in several films in two years. TAKEN,THE GREY,UNKNOWN,BATTLESHIP and even more still. His turn in the GODS films as ZEUS he really get's to exude his powerful presence. He really cuts a mean figure and ZEUS father of the Gods suits him well. I enjoyed ROB ROY immensely and always thought to myself he'd make a perfect  SOLOMON KANE but they made that film with James Purefoy instead.  I enjoyed that anyway regardless.  Lets get back to Liam.  I look forward to more films from Liam and I hope he one day earns an Oscar or at least a nomination in the next few years.  He's got the chops and I consider him a Hollywood hero right up there with Wayne and Eastwood.  I believe he's got the star power.  God bless you Liam...may you rule supreme in years to come.

Geof Isherwood,John Byrne and Bob Layton

It's always fun to browse the web and pick and post cool HERC pics by some of the greatest artists in the field. Usually most of these drawings are of Marvel's fun loving GIFT bestower HERC...but from time to time I see a cool old Steve Reeves pic or even a Big Louie. But today...I share with you...HERCULES the Prince of POWER!!! Cheers!!!

Tarzan season one starring Ron Ely

Ok so it aint HERCULES...but it's news I wanted to share...this set came out in March 2012. I just found out about it and am gonna hunt it down on ebay and obtain one. Now Tarzan may be a far cry from HERCULES but they happen to have ties....Gordon Scott for one....the sixties for another. HERCULES and TARZAN films were quite popular movie fare back in those days. The Weintraub TARZAN films of the sixties starring Gordon Scott and Jock Mahoney as well as MIke Henry are among my favorites. This series was produced by the same production company. One can hope that soon those films will be released in an official capacity. I have them all on DVDR's but...it aint the same. I always wondered why TARZAN having been a household name in the hero biz for over a century there is such a long wait for these movies. See below the copy from Amazon for the DVD set.
Premiering on NBC in 1966, Edgar Rice Burroughs' immortal creation, Tarzan, took to the nation's TV screens for the first time. Still in the capable hands of producer Sy Weintraub, the TV Tarzan (Ron Ely) continued the more recent (and more authentic) interpretation of Lord Greystoke as a sophisticated, articulate jungle adventurer as seen in the Tarzan films of Gordon Scott, Jock Mahoney and Mike Henry. Also carried over from the big screen was young actor Manuel Padilla (Tarzan and the Valley of Gold, Tarzan and the Great River), now playing the jungle lord's kid sidekick alongside Cheetah, the simian one.The first half of his inaugural season finds Tarzan rescuing seeing-eye lions, endangered leopards, and pampered princes while battling man-eaters, despots and deadly arachnids in this 4-Disc, 15-Episode collection. Guest stars include former Tarzan Jock Mahoney, Star Trek's Nichelle Nichols, Woody Strode, and Russ Tamblyn. Then Ron Ely continues his memorable run as Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan in the second half of his first season. This 16-Episode, 4-Disc collection sees the Lord of the Jungle and his stalwart second bananas, Jai the jungle boy (Manuel Padilla) and Cheetah the chimp, facing off against some of their most formidable challenges alongside a bevy of powerhouse performer guest stars.Stage and screen legend Julie Harris makes her first appearance as the imperiled, imperious missionary Charity Jones and Maurice Evans makes his memorable debut as Sir Basil Bertram. And the action continues to heat up with volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, phantom dinosaurs and more fantastic jungle menaces. Adding their talents to the drama and the dangers are Susan Oliver, Chips Rafferty, Gia Scala, Sally Kellerman and Jack Elam.

Stuff from around....In one MIGHTY post!

Hercules vs Jercules from the Disney version of the mythical strongman. Erik Larsen's Herakles from SAVAGE DRAGON comics....always loved Eriks work. Not really certain who this is by...it could be MItch Breitweiser judging from the broad black dry brush technique but I can't really make out that signiture. John Byrne's HERCULES from MARVEL universe A-Z....with some Kirby clips here and there for good measure.

Wrath of Titans : Motion comic DVD...or two minutes of it anyway.

I was heading home from work one day and decided to make a pit stop at Toys is us.  They have a pretty big DVD section...so I was browsing and came across this WRATH OF THE TITANS special edition motion comic DVD for 5.99....so...being that HERCULES plays a role in the story and being that Perseus is HERKIE'S half brother I snatched that bitch up and runned on home to stick it in my player.
Great story...nice homage to Ray Harryhausen.  NOW...I gots to go out watch me the film....just to tie up loose ends.

The Mighty HERCULES DVD

Finally after umpteen years....I find by accident mind you this DVD...it has 110 minutes of Mighty Herc cartoons on it from those thrilling days of yeteryear. I went to go see my Nephews band play in the BREAK CONTEST at a local bar...they are called ONCE MY WAY...and afterward I went to Barnes and Noble with my brother in law because he wanted to pick up the anniversary edition blue ray of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS. Lo and behold...right behind me was the MIGHTY HERCULES....I never even knew it was on disc. They don't advertise this stuff and if they do...WHERE?
I have a collection of HERC cartoons I bought at a convention in JOISEY about 9 years ago on VHS for 30 bucks...guess I can toss the VHS now...bootleg material is cool but why on earth is it always so much freaking money. So...I have hours of cartoons to watch between the Animated STAR TREK and SUPER FRIENDS collections...see ya in the funny pages!

HERCULES variant covers

This one never gets old....

I've been going to the same comic bbok store since 1978...that is a long time for a comic book store to be in business. There is a reason he's been in business for so long. He knows how to cut corners.

Every one of these HERC variant covers he missed me on...because he does not buy variant covers. So...I miss out. Oh I got my comics but never got my variant covers. I wonder how many other variant covers I never got because of his cost cutting. Oh well..guess I'll never know but for now...these are some of the comics I have to hunt down in order to get my variants. ;)

By Heck it's HERC!

A beautiful piece of art by Don Heck for this vintage original. I love the line work here. All the delineatian going on...the big fat thick wet lines deliberately placed with a masterful hand.

Great stuff...just wonderful. PS...I will be taking a short leave of absense from posting anything new for about a month. Please feel free to comment here and there. I will pop in once in awhile.

Clash of the Titans 2010...my review

Well...I did it I finally watched the 2010 version. What took me so long was my aversion to remakes and anything new-ish. Shit I did not get a cell phone until 8 years ago , I did not even get a computer until 7 years ago...I bought LP's and cassettes and refused to by CD's all the way up until they completely stopped putting them on the shelves and I was forced to. Lets not even talk about DVD's lol....Put it this way...I have 1000 VHS tapes and it took me years to compile my collection...I only have about 200 or so DVD's. I guess my ignorant view of change has finally been put to rest. Anyway...On to my review.

All in all it was a good film despite the slight changes in the plot. I do indeed like the appearance of the witches in the original. I also like CHARON better in the original...Ray Harryhausen's Medusa is pretty damned cool but the CGI version in this film was of course more fluid and supple and even yes...more realistic. Of course snake ladies don't come slithering around everyday so what am I comparing her to?

Of course there was Liam Neeson , the guy is a brilliant actor and his portayal of Zeus was pretty damned good. Of course nobody has acting chops like Sir Laurence Olivier. But I have always liked Liam.

I did not really care for the way they treated Boobo the owl. They just shucked him back in the trunk like trash. But actually seeing him was pretty cool.

Calibos ? What the hell was up with him? I more rather prefer the original version of him too. As far as special effects and action sequences and the acting it was fair. Not one thing about this film actually got one digit on the suck o meter. It was good. On a scale of 1 to 10 I can fairly give it a 7. That's just me. What prompted me to finally watch this movie was the fact that Wrath of the Titans will soon be hitting movie houses all over and I thought from the trialers I've seen that it looks pretty good. Another of my idiosychrasies is to make sure I've seen part one of any film before I see a sequel so I was forced by my O.C.D to do something I maybe never would have done. Watch this movie.

One sequence in particular stands out in my mind as a pretty cool action bit was the first time and even the second time Calibos pops up out of no place. Especially the surprise attack on Perseus and his men the very first time where he loses his hand during the battle. When Percy was rolling down the slope and Callie comes bounding after him in huge strides that was just good action. I guess I'm learning to live with NEWISH-NESS...Cell phones and computers and I-PHONES , CD's and DVD's and Blue rays and so on...I have to accept that the future is the present and here I am in the middle of it. I have to adapt with the changes like everyone else.

So when WRATH comes out..I'll be watching it. Now I have to wait and see if they even bother making another CONAN film after that less than stellar box office flop they released. I mean I liked it and was disappointed by it's failure to bring in viewers. Then of course there is the 3D HERCULES film they say they're making...we'll see.

Anyway...this is a good movie. If you have not seen it...do so.
